5 Reasons to Plan a Fall Vacation to Alabama Beaches
This year, fall begins September 20th and ends on December 20th. To me, this is the best time to visit Alabama beaches! As a somewhat local, living only an hour away from the beaches of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, I have the luxury of visiting the beach just about anytime of year. However, I have found fall is one of my favorite times of the year to visit.
Come on, how often can you see the sun and the moon in a beautiful sunrise picture!
Warm Water & Cooler Air
During fall, especially the beginning, the water is still warm from the hot summer weather yet, the air is cooler. If you have visited the beaches during the summer, you are fully aware of our hot summer weather. While the summer sun is wonderful, I prefer the warm to cool air of fall. There is nothing more enjoyable to me than waking up to a cool crisp fall day. During September, the Gulf Shores & Orange Beach average temperature is 77°F, October 71°F, and 62°F in November. Those are perfect weather days!
Quiet Beaches
Quiet beaches are also a benefit of traveling to Alabama beaches during the fall season. While there are people on the beaches all year round, there is a considerably less amount of visitors during the fall and winter months. You have room to spread out, let your kids play in the sand, or relax in a spot to yourself and enjoy your day.
Lower Rates
Oh, yes! Lower rates are an added bonus for traveling during the fall. You can plan a Girls Weekend Getaway, a Family Vacation, or a Couples Romantic weekend at great prices during the fall season. There are very few holiday weekends in the fall, which equates to lower rates at the hotels and condos. If you plan your trip during a festival, it may be a little higher but, other than special events and the week of Thanksgiving, rates are generally lower during the fall season.
Great Seafood
Besides going to the beaches, there is a lot to do in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, and eating is on the top of my list! The Gulf Shores & Orange Beach website has a great directory of wonderful places to eat. I would suggest checking out The Hangout, Original Oyster House, Cobalt the Restaurant, Lucy Buffett’s LuLu’s, Tacky Jacks, Bill’s by the Beach, and The Steamer & Baked Oyster Bar. Those are just a few of the awesome seafood restaurants!
Festivals & Events
Alabama Beaches have great festivals and events during the fall. Gulf Shores and Orange Beach offer Annual Festivals, like the Annual Oyster Cook Off & Craft Beer Weekend at The Hangout and the Annual National Shrimp Festival. Culinary experiences like the 2016 World Food Championships! Historical places to visit, music & nightlife, fishing, along with fun sporting events. You can find a whole list of events and much more on the Gulf Shores Things to Do Calendar.

I have to be honest I live on the West Coast (Norhern Cali to be exact) and have never thought of going to Alabama for a vacation. But with the Zika or Zita (I can’t seem to recall if it’s a t or a k) threat I cancelled my plans to go to Florida this year. I’m not sure if I’ll to to Alabama but for sure I am gonna Google.com up some info and at the very least look into it! I’m always looking for new places to visit, especially some place off the beaten path that is not over crowded or over touristy. I’m gonna go Google.com now! Thanks!
