Fall Leaf Sugar Cookies Recipe

By: Tina Date: August 24, 2015 137 Comments

Fall is right around the corner and I for one am happy to see it coming!! The smells of Fall outside is one of my favorite scents that make we want to open all the windows in the house and cook special treats for my family. I love waking up to the cool crisp air with a hint of cold winter breezes to come. Here is a sweet treat to make for any Fall special event a hit for your family and friends.

Fall Leaf Sugar Cookies

Fall Leaf Sugar Cookies

Prep: 30 minutes
Baking: 5 minutes
Yield: 4-Dozen Cookies

Ingredients
1½ cups Butter (room temperature)
3 cups Sugar
2 tbsp. Greek Yogurt
3 tsp. Vanilla Extract
2 Eggs
3½ cups Flour
1½ tsp. Baking Soda
1½ tsp. Baking Powder
½ tsp. Salt

Tools/Decoration
Cake Boss 4-Piece Fall Leaf Fondant Press Set
Yellow Fondant
Orange Fondant
Wilton Orange Sparkle Gel

Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Using electric mixer, cream butter and sugar together for a few minutes at medium speed using paddle.

Combine dry ingredients in medium mixing bowl: flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
Fall Leaf Sugar Cookies In Process 1

Slowly add dry mixture to mixer on low speed until all ingredients are evenly combined.
Scoop mixture into medium mixing bowl. Seal and place in refrigerator overnight.

Fall Leaf Sugar Cookies In Process 6
Remove from refrigerator. Scoop out one fist-sized ball at a time and place onto parchment paper. Knead with hands. Sprinkle flour onto rolling pin and dough as needed to avoid sticking. Use rolling pin to flatten dough evenly.

Fall Leaf Sugar Cookies In Process 7
Using all 4 of the fall leaf cookie/fondant cutters, begin to cut each shape into the dough as many times as possible. Do NOT press down on spring button.

Fall Leaf Sugar Cookies In Process 8
Place all of the fall leaf shaped cookies onto baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees F for 5 minutes per batch.

Fall Leaf Sugar Cookies In Process 9
Remove from oven. Let cool for approximately 5 minutes.

Knead yellow fondant in hands for a few minutes. Use fondant roller or regular rolling pin to flatten into a thin layer. Using the same fall leaf shapes, begin to cut as many leaves as possible from the fondant.

Be sure to press down on the spring button when cutting each shape, this will create 3-dimensional detailing and indentations for your leaves.

Fall Leaf Sugar Cookies In Process 12
Repeat step 12 for the orange fondant.

Fall Leaf Sugar Cookies In Process 13
Using the orange sparkle gel, begin to fill the indentations. Do this to about half of the sugar cookies. Add fondant leaf cutouts to each cookie and press down gently to secure.

I always know when fall is coming when the leaves cascade from the trees. As a kid, I loved drawing pictures with maple leaf patterns. This recipe would be a great way to celebrate ushering in the autumn season. You could even take the theme further, and top the cookies with maple icing!

I love sugar cookies and this is the only time of the year that I let myself have them or I would weigh 300 pounds! These look awfully good! I have to admit that I cheat and get the already made dough but do the decorating myself. With RA and Fibromyalgia, I can barely do that, so making my own dough would send me over the edge! Sure do wish I lived next door to you!

These cookies are too cute to eat. My family loves homemade sugar cookies and I’m sure they will love these as well.

Those are beautiful cookies that i bet you could sell from home for Autumn every year!!
I have never worked with fondant …I’d probably buy the dyes from the bulk Barn, and they have very vibrant colors there, and dye my icing instead but tgats only because I don’t have that equipment you mentioned

I am loving how easy your recipe is and those cookies came out so wonderful and delicious looking, I love that
you added the glitter on the leaves, it just helps bring it out even more.

I like sugar cookies but I’m so impatient and never want to wait for the dough to chill. I’ve also never worked with fondant but these are so pretty I may just try them!
