Hotel Keys of Hope – Lodging Accommodations for Cancer Patients
I wanted to take a day to make sure all of you know about Hotel Keys of Hope℠. With Travis having prostate cancer and us traveling for treatment at MD Anderson, hotel room cost can add up! Everyone will tell you, the key to surviving cancer is access to proper treatment. Of course, when you have a loved one with cancer you will travel anywhere to get them the care they need. One of the biggest worries to getting treatment is the cost associated with living away from home while undergoing treatment. You don’t realize how much it cost to travel for treatment until you are in the situation yourself. I tell people it’s like being forced to take a vacation you didn’t want to take. Then, try having to take that vacation just about every month! And trust me, it is not a vacation.
After Travis’ surgery, we had to stay in Houston for almost a full month. I WISH I had known about this program then! Although, we received an MD Anderson discount at Extended Stay America®, it still became crazy expensive. First, I tried to find a furnished apartment to rent. Apparently, that is in high demand, in that area of town. It was more cost efficient for us to stay at the Extended Stay America hotel than an apartment. This was when I became introduced to The Extended Stay America hotels. They offer discounts the longer you stay! Really helps! Plus, it has a full kitchen along with cooking supplies like pot, pans, plates, cups, and more. You can save money cooking your own meals.
Here are a few deal codes for anyone looking:

It was after our long stay that I learned about Hotel Keys of Hope. Since then, I call The American Cancer Society® anytime we need to travel back to MD Anderson. Each time they are able to book the reservations for me at an even greater discounted rate. This has truly been so very helpful!
The American Cancer Society and Extended Stay America hotels formed the partnership to create Hotel Keys of Hope in 2013. Extended Stay America launched a two-year relationship with the American Cancer Society and their Hope Lodge® program; which provides accommodations for cancer patients receiving lifesaving treatment away from home. Over the next two years, Extended Stay America donated 20,000 free rooms, and 20,000 rooms at a special low $12.00 discounted rate, to the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge® program. How wonderful is that!?
The Today Show did a great piece talking about Hotel Keys of Hope in the video below. The hotel shown in the video is the exact hotel Travis and I stay at for our trips to MD Anderson. I even recognize the guy checking them into the hotel. That’s another thing, the staff is friendly and super helpful. In fact, the last time I checked into the hotel, they knew my name before I even said it. They recognized me! Sad that we have to travel there so very often but, nice that they make it feel like a second home.
Now, Extended Stay America is more than doubling its previous contribution of FREE and deeply discounted rooms to an unprecedented 50,000 rooms per year and launching Hotel Keys of Hope; a nationwide program available at all Extended Stay America hotels where guests are encouraged to leave their room keys to help save a life. I always make sure to leave our keys now. In fact, I now go out of my way to find an Extended Stay America when we travel. A few months ago we went to Orlando on a family vacation and stayed at an Extended Stay America. Read all about our great family vacation and our Orlando family stay.
If you stay at an Extended Stay America, please…… Leave a key, help save a life!℠
For every key left in the Hotel Keys of Hope collection box, Extended Stay America will donate $1 of hotel room value to the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge® program.
If you know someone in need of this program, they can contact:
The American Cancer Society at 1-800-227-2345.

I can only imagine how hard it is to be away from home while receiving treatment. it’s not just the stress of the situation but if you don’t have a lot of money, the stress on the bank account as well. Thank God that those who are affected by cancer have something like this to help.
