LEGOLAND Vacation: 12 Tips for Planning Your Trip to LEGOLAND

 

Yeah, you are planning a vacation to LEGOLAND! Here are 12 Tips for Planning Your Trip to LEGOLAND. Don’t make the mistakes I did. Learn from our family trip so you can have a fun stress free trip!

1 – Check the Times & Dates of the Park

You want to get the most out of you tickets, so make sure to know the park hours of operation for the day of your visit. I found it super easy to purchase the tickets online and print them from home. This will save you a lot of time waiting in line. You want to get the most out of you tickets, so make sure to know the park hours of operation for the day of your visit.

2 – Pack for the Day

If you want to tote around a small cooler with water and light snacks, that is allowed. However, full meals/food are not allowed with the exception of baby food and food for people with allergies. I saw several families bringing in the kid pull wagons and strollers.

If you don’t want to get soaked, make sure to pack ponchos. Florida is known for pop-up storms in the summer and they may come in handy on a few rides. The storms will quickly come and go but, if you don’t want to get wet, pack one! Apply sunscreen before you go to the park, even during the winter months. If you are going to carry a phone or camera, make sure to bring a waterproof bag. Just walking around LEGOLAND, you will get wet. Which, brings me to clothes and shoes. I really recommend just wearing your bathing suit with clothes over the top. As for shoes, super comfortable with soles, preferably water shoes of some type. We ended up buying flip flops at the park for all of us! Trust me, you don’t want to spend that money!

3- Save Your Photo Cards & Buy the Photos You Want

Make sure to save all your photo cards from your photo sessions throughout the day. You can visit the photo shop in guest services before you leave the park. Also, they offer you a chance to purchase your photo, after the bigger rides. I would suggest buying one. Ours’ is hilarious!

 

4 – Check Your Child’s Height Before You Go

If your child is under 36″ tall, there are only a handful of rides they can go on so be prepared for that. There are shows and play areas for kids under 36″ but, the majority of the rides are for 42″ tall or taller or someone 42″ or taller must be on the ride with the child who is shorter than that. I would also say the park is geared for ages 3-12 but, any age will have fun.

5 – Some Rides Are Divided Up Into Age Groups

Some rides require kids to be a certain age before riding and some of the smaller rides have a maximum age limit. This was a bit of an issue for us because we had a 5 year old and a 10 year old with us. There were only maybe a handful of these rides. However, my husband and I just split up for those rides.

6 – Plan Your Day

Online, LEGOLAND updates their show times weekly. Check the website or park when you arrive to ensure you don’t miss any times. You can plan ahead to see a 4D Movie while you are there and meet the character after the show. There are several places to dine while inside the park. You might want to plan a time to eat early and then again late or grab a treat later in the day.

7 – Long Line? ~ Wait till the End of the Day

If you happen to get to the park early, by all means, go directly to the line of the ride you really don’t want to miss. However, if you find a ride that happens to be a super long line, just wait till right before the park closes. I know most people will tell you ‘get there early’ but, I have always found that if you wait till closing time, most people with very worn out small kids have gone home! You can walk right into a ride during the last 30 minutes the park is open. Save the long line rides for the end of the day!

8 – You Will Get Wet

I know LEGOLAND has a separate Water Park but, in all honestly, the park is also a Water Park! You will get wet if you ride all of the rides! And I don’t mean a little wet but, drenched from head to foot. If you want, break out that poncho, otherwise, you will be drenched! For some of the rides, you have to pay for a locker to store your items in before the ride. Other rides have small cubbies to leave your items. I highly recommend a waterproof backpack.

They have a huge splash pad area with slides for the kids. It was so hot while we were there, it was a welcomed cool off at every one of them! Afterwards, if you want to dry off a bit, they do have huge family dryers you can rent for $5 to stand in and dry off. We did one after the The Quest For CHI Water Ride at World of Chima. 

9 – Extra Games & Attraction

Throughout the park, there are extra games and attractions that you can pay extra to do. They also have carnival-like games you can pay to play. The workers were not pushy about getting the kids to play but, just be aware these games do cost to play.

10 – Buy the Refillable All Day Cup

You can bring in bottled water in a cooler if you like but, if not, I suggest you purchase the refillable all day cups. You pay once and they have refill stations all over the park for you to refill with sodas and slushies.

11 – Shop Last

Visit the Lego store as the last stop on your way out of the park. The shops usually stay open for an hour after the park closes. If you don’t mind the craziness of lots of people, you can get your souvenirs and bigger Lego sets then and take them out with you.

12 – Plan to Stay Two Days

We only went to LEGOLAND for one day and did the water park in the same day. If I had it to do over again, I would think I would have enjoyed two days. If you are just doing the park, it can be done in one day.
