Stress Urinary Incontinence & Swimsuits ~ Live Life, Go To The Beach!

I suffer from Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI). SUI is the leakage of urine brought on by sneezing, laughing, coughing, dancing, and exercise. If you suffer from SUI it might cause you to feel embarrassed, perhaps isolate yourself, or limit your work and social life, especially exercise and leisure activities. I know I have almost missed out on fun activities in my life from the fear of a leakage.

Example….

This past weekend I was on a promotional trip to the Destin / Fort Walton Beach area in Florida. I was super excited for this trip!! Then, I realized the itinerary called for us to take a ferry ride to a private beach. Most of you are thinking, “Oh, that sounds awesome!” I might have also thought that but, if you are like me and suffer from SUI a beach trip might put you into panic mode.

My thinking….

Okay, this is a great opportunity but…. I have to put on a swimsuit in my hotel room. Then, walk down to the ferry and ride the ferry to the private beach that has no restrooms. I need a pantyliner on for the walk to the ferry and ride to the beach. Once I am on the beach there is no restroom for me to take the pantyliner off. What if I want to swim? So, I can’t wear a pantyliner. What if I sneezing, laughing, or coughing on the way there!

Solution….

#LifeAfterLeaks Beach (1)

I packed Poise Impressa Bladder Supports! They are a soft flexible, internal device with a non-absorbent outer cover, designed for the temporary management of SUI. You can exercise and swim while using them! Watch this video on the Poise Impressa home page that gives a great explanation of how to use them and how they work.

I found them at my local CVS and before you head out grab a $1 off the Poise Impressa Starter Kit printable coupon for CVS. I am thinking most stores might have them on the adult care/bladder control aisle but, mine was one aisle over on the side-end cap.

How to Use The Poise Impressa Starting Kit….

You need to start with the Poise Impressa Sizing Kit pack.

#LifeAfterLeaks (1)

Since the size of the product is not about how much you leak or how much you weigh, the Sizing Kit will get you started. The size is about the best internal fit for your body.

Poise Impressa is inserted like a tampon. Start with Size 1, and if you still leak, move to size 2, then size 3 if necessary.
Step 1: Start with size 1, insert the Bladder Support just like you would a tampon.
Step 2: The non-absorbent Bladder Support expands to support the urethra once inside.
Step 3: If you still experience leaks, then progress to size 2. Repeat until you’ve found your perfect internal fit.
Step 4: To remove, pull on the string and dispose of the bladder support in the trash.
Step 5: After using the Sizing Kit to discover your perfect fit, you can advance to a 10-count pack with the size that best suits your needs.

You can wear Poise Impressa Bladder Supports for up to 8 hours in a 24 hour period. Next, I am sure you are wondering if you have to remove it to use the bathroom. The answer, is no. You can use the restroom normally without having to take out the Poise Impressa. One thing you should know, is that while Poise Impressa may look and function like a tampon it does not absorb leaks because it is designed to help prevent them. Do not wear them if you are pregnant or during your period.

My initial thought was to take a swim in the ocean.I am not sure how a tampon would help. If it does, go for it.

I would be able to walk through any store I wanted without having to do a start and stop or take breaks. This will be a great advantage for extra long shopping trips around the holidays!

So, the insert doesn’t stop leaks but it supports the urethra, right?

I wonder if these are available in Ireland? I’ve only ever seen them online and my GP has only ever advised pelvic floor exercises.

I think I might try this. Any side effects? I know that it would be a good solution for amusement parks that have a combo of water and rollercoaster rides, because it’s hard to switch around when my son is in a hurry to ride them all. We live in Utah and go to Lagoon.
